Poas Volcano
Tour Information
Poas Volcano is an active volcano just northwest of the central valley. Lava eruptions and small geysers occur frequently. The last major eruptions occurred between 1952-1954. Poas is very accessible and requires a short walk to view the crater. This is a must see attraction.
La Paz Waterfall Garden and Butterfly Farm is a favorite among tourists. The park suffered considerable damage during the earthquake in January 2009, but has recently re-opened. Observe live hatching of butterflies, many species of birds native to Costa Rica, monkeys, and cougars. Easy walking through the animal observatories. The waterfalls are breathtaking and worth the hike.
